Matt Hirschman Goes Three For Three at Mountain

Making his third Modified start of the season Sunday at Mountain Speedway, Matte Hirschman of Northampton started the main event in the eight spot. He quickly climbed to the front and held off Brian DeFebo for his third win in his third start this season. Following a tangle with the leaders, Kevin Higgins of Alden inherited the lead in the Street Stock feature and never looked back, as he took his sixth win of the year. The same scenario took place in the Factory Stock feature and Ed Bischoff of Howell, NJ was the benefactor, which earned him his first victory at the track. In a fight to the finish, Scott Adams took the checkers first in the Four Cylinder feature with was later penalized a spot for not having a muffler in post race tech. The turn of events gave Tanner Fennell of Lackawaxen his first victory at the speedway. Brendon Bock of Franklin Square, NY continued in his winning ways and rolled to his seventh INEX legends victory of the year.

Geary Rinehimer, Jr. started from the pole position in the 3—lap Modified main event. He led the opening circuit over John Fortin, Jr, Paul Frantz, Jim Bojohnny and eighth place starter, Matt Hirschman.

With one lap complete, Hirschman grabbed the fourth spot from Bojohnny and Brian DeFebo followed through to take fifth. Five laps later Hirschman got under Frantz for third. Fortin, Jr. took his hand at the lead after going around Rinehimer. Hirschman followed through for second with DeFebo and Frantz in tow. Without a caution in the early going, Hirschman hounded then made a bid for the lead on lap 13.

With Hirschman showing the way, a quick yellow waved on lap 16. Following the restart, DeFebo climbed to the second position. With 20 laps complete, Hirschman continued to set the pace over DeFebo, Fortin, Jr, Amber Fortin and Frantz.

With two laps remaining, the final caution flag waved when Jason Hearne, Dan Speeney, A. Fortin and J. Fortin, Jr. collected in turns one and two. DeFebo gave his all on the restart but Hirschman held him off to take his third victory at the speedway in his third start of the season. DeFebo settled for second, followed by Frantz, John Fortin, Sr. and Rinehimer.

Heat race victories went to Amber Fortin and John Fortin, Jr.

After starting from the pole, Bernie Uphold led the opening lap of the 25-lap Street Stock feature over Robert Fink, Steve Shultz, Randy Schlenker and Kevin Higgins.

With two laps in the books, Schlenker got by Fink for second and one lap later Brian Wozniak took third. Meanwhile, Chip Wanamaker cracked the top five.

The caution flag waved on lap five when Fink was spun in turns three and four and on the restart Wanamaker grabbed the runner up spot. Following two lap 13 yellows, Wanamaker battled Schlenker and moved into the race lead on lap 14. Meanwhile, Wozniak and Higgins battled hard for third.

With six laps remaining Wanamaker lost an engine and suddenly stopped in turn two, which forced Schlenker to stop as well. The turn of events brought out the caution flag and gave the race lead to Higgins. Nick Ross lined up second for the restart and gave the leader a run for his money on the final lap but Higgins was able to fend him off to collect his sixth win of the year. Ross, Burge, Schultz and Fink completed the top five.

Heat race wins went to Nick Ross and Chip Wanamaker.

Stephanie Moyer led the Factory Stocks to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap feature. Matt Mattern, Jr. took the lead and led the first circuit over Moyer, Paul Morgan, Jr, Ed Bischoff and Stephen Michel III. With two laps complete, Morgan got by Moyer for second and set his sights on the leader.

Following a lap seven restart, Morgan battled hard with Mattern and the pair touched while racing off turn two. The end result was a broken axle on Mattern’s machine and Morgan had to restart from the tail of the field. The race restarted with Moyer as the leader over Bischoff.

As Morgan climbed back to second in the closing laps, it appeared that Moyer was on her way to the second win of her career, but that all ended when Morgan made contact, which cause the leader to spin and the pair restarted at the back of the field. With the lead in have and with one lap remaining, Bischoff held off the field to notch his first win at the speedway over Jerry Koenig, Morgan, Michel and Moyer.

Paul Morgan, Jr. and Matt Mattern, Jr. were heat race winners.

Heather Fennell led the first circuit of the 20-lap Four Cylinder feature after starting on the pole position. With one lap complete, Tanner Fennell took the top spot and then the yellow flag waved when Harry O’Neill clipped H. Fennell in turn four. Ray Fennell IV and Sam Ryan were also collected.

Green flag racing resumed with T. Fennell in command, followed by John Banashefski, Scott Adams, Larry Spencer III and Justin Hughes. As the laps clicked off, T. Fennell stayed at the point and Banashefski and Adams battled hard for second. However, trouble struck Banashefski when he suffered a flat tired with three laps remaining.

With the green flag back out, Adams tried to take T. Fennell on both the high and low sides and each time was null. That all changed when the two drove into turn one swapping paint on the final lap. Adams crossed the strip first over T. Fennell for what would have been his fourteenth win of the year, but he was penalized one position for not having a muffler on his car during post race tech inspection.

T. Fennell was awarded the win, which is the first of his career at the speedway. Adams, O’Neill, Spencer and Ryan completed the official top five.

Mitch Dowd led the INEX Legends driver to the drop of the green flag in the 20-lap feature but was overtaken by Michael Carroll, Jr. before a lap was scored. Brad Lowmaster quickly climbed to second, followed by Dowd, Brendon Bock and Bryan Kelly with one lap complete.

Following a spin on lap four by Kelly, Bock got by both Lowmaster and Carroll to take the lead. The remainder of the event went caution-free and Bock never looked back as he took the checkers for his seventh win of the season. Lowmaster finished as the runner up, followed by Carroll, Dowd and Artie Pedersen III.

Brad Lowmaster and Brendon Bock were heat race winners.
