Spanish oil company will continue to support the factory team at least until the end of the 2024 season
Honda Motorcycles received its signature yellow and orange livery back in 1995, one of the most successful and productive partnerships in the history of the sport. Since then, the team’s riders have won 16 championship titles, six of which were won between 2013-19 by Marc Marquez.
Last time Repsol and Honda renewed their contract at the end of 2020, there were rumors in the paddock as if the team was seriously considering giving up its partnership with the oilmen and negotiating a title sponsorship with Red Bull.
However, on Tuesday it became known that Repsol will remain with Honda for two more years – until the end of 2024. This contract can be called a success of marketers, as recently the results of the factory team plummeted sharply. In the current season its riders have not won a single victory, Marquez and Paul Espargaro only once on the podium. Honda trails in last place in the manufacturers’ standings.
Marquez has missed a significant part of the current championship due to health problems – first the Spaniard began to have vision problems after a serious fall in Indonesia, then he decided to have a fourth operation on the ill-fated right arm, broken back in 2020 in Jerez.
