On July 27-30 in Esbjerg, Denmark, we were supposed to see the finals of Speedway of Nations and SoN2, which this season replaced ECMJ. However, we already know that the tournament will not take place in this city.
The big surprise was the news of Esbjerg’s appointment as the organizer of Speedway of Nations. The Danish leaders had high hopes for this event. In Esbjerg everyone was preparing for this celebration. Local club director Lars Guldager Dair was at work all the time, because of this his health deteriorated and a few days ago he ended up in hospital, as he reported on social media.
Dair reported that he needed to take some time off from speedway and slow down. This meant having to disconnect from the staff that was responsible for the most important team speedway event in the world for the 2022 season.
No one anticipated the further repercussions this would entail.
Dyhra’s absence forced the management team, which was also responsible for the event, to withdraw from the organization. This meant that almost two weeks before the Speedway of Nations, a new tournament organizer had to be found.
The choice fell to Voyensg, which is a track well known for the Speedway Grand Prix. The tournament organizers make no secret in a press release that this is an uncomfortable situation, but they understand the situation. They believe that the fact that both tracks are separated by only 70 kilometers will cause as little interference as possible in the plans of the fans as well as the riders themselves.
The draw and format of the Speedway of Nations remains unchanged, which means the semifinals for adults will be held July 27 and 28, and the finals July 30, at which time the juniors’ tournament July 29.
